Queer as Woodland Folk

  • Speckled Wood 128 Frederick Road Hastings, England, TN35 5AL United Kingdom (map)

All are welcome in the woods! A space for LGBTQIA+ people to connect with nature, with each other, and ourselves. The morning will provide various things to explore, things to craft and create, games to play, and activities to ground us and to invigorate us. Surround yourself with queer friends, old and new, and let nature do its thing.

A little about what the day will include:

Tiny Altars to the Wild Gods

In devotion to our own queer wildness and the abundance of queer ecology all around us, we will ritually adorn our own small altars in the woodland landscape, using found materials. Led by performer, artist and facilitator, Rosy Pendlebaby.

Creating poetry with S-Bars

Poet Sofe will lead you through simple poetry prompts, using Mother Nature and the woods around you as your guide, to create poems that heal, just like the wilderness does.

Nature’s music

Music is everywhere, and especially in the wild. We will look at found sound and the different things we can do with it, creating tunes from only what nature has given us.

Chatting and connecting

There will of course be space in our wooded area which holds no agenda - an area to drink tea, chat and connect with each other and with the woods.

Event details:

  • Location: Speckled Wood (entrance opposite the WC1 Bathrooms & Hastings Tiles). There is free on-road parking on the streets nearby. Apologies, only part of this location is wheelchair friendly (one of the stations will take place in a section close to the entrance of the wood, and the other three stations are down a set of natural steps). People with access needs are welcome to email curiousagenda@gmail.com to chat with us about how the event can be adapted and whether it suits your needs.

  • Date & time: Saturday 18th May, 10:30am-1:30pm

  • No need to bring anything, just your creative, queer self.

  • Please make sure you’re wearing shoes that are appropriate for a wooded area.
