Steel Pan Drums Drop-In

  • Hastings Museum Bohemia Road Hastings, England, TN34 1ET United Kingdom (map)

Pop in to Jim's Steel Pan Drums Drop-in, to try your hand at making some funky Caribbean sounds! Fun for all the family.

Talented musician & music teacher Jim Bernardin is running two workshops later in the day, so this is for children and families to just pop in and try it. Drop-in for free and have a go at the brilliant and funky instrument that is the steel drums!

Fun for all the family, there will also be percussion instruments at hand for those too little to reach the steel pans.

Age 5+ at parent/guardian's discretion.

Jim learnt to sight-read as a kit drummer, and quickly established himself drumming for shows and backing artists in residencies on land and on cruise-ships. He later studied the marimba, piano, steel pan and more recently the bass guitar, gaining a first class music degree in 1998 and a Masters 2020.

Teaching has been a passion for twenty five years now, as has creating and directing successful community projects like Worthing Steel Band from 2012-2021.

In addition to his bespoke multicultural-influenced percussion workshops, Jim remains an active musician on steel pan and drum kit in the genres of Latin Jazz, Caribbean, Afro-Cuban and Brazilian music.
