Plant a Memory Curiosity Cabinet

  • Saint Leonards Church Market London Road Saint Leonards-on-sea, England, TN37 6AS United Kingdom (map)

This workshop asks participants to contribute to a shared story and a growing artwork - quite literally. We invite you to bring along a small cutting or specimen of a plant that means something to you, and add it to the curiosity cabinet along with a short description that tells us about your connection with your plant - does it bring back memories of childhood? Does it connect you to a particular place, a person or a time in your history? Or is it simply a personal favourite? The collection will grow throughout the festival and thereafter plants will be shared with the local community.

Details:

  • No age restriction, all welcome.

  • Drop-in workshop - Family and adults - FREE

Laura Ribbons’ work explores our relationship with plants and the ways in which we  connect and coexist with them in the context of the climate crisis, as well as how they alter our experience of place. Her practice asks what we can learn from other species and considers how we can exist together across human and non-human communities. Laura’s work celebrates the strength, resilience and mythology of plants, representing a desire to find solace and resolution in nature. Laura's practice is increasingly informed by her work as an artist facilitator. To date Laura has collaborated with various institutions including Pallant House Gallery, Watts Gallery - Artist Village and with Towner Gallery. Through her facilitation Laura enjoys co-creating work with the public and co-producing large immersive installations on themes including sanctuary, fragile landscapes, place-making and the use of sustainable materials.
